Of Decadent Breakfasts and Alfresco Dining

Happy Labour day, y’all!

Anyone who knows me personally would know how much I adore food. I always get excited when I start to get hungry cos it entails an excuse for a major food fiesta. But unfortunately, it’s difficult to convince people to go food hunting with me all the time cos not everyone places as much an emphasis on what goes into their bellies as I do.

Also, price is a factor when it comes to dining. I used to adamantly refuse to spend extravagant amounts of money on food because, well, it doesn’t seem like a good investment, does it? What you eat simply disappears and gets digested at the end of the day. You don’t see a substantial return for your expenditure.

BUTTT, as I grew older, I started to fully appreciate the joy and satisfaction a full stomach and flavourful concoctions can bring. I’ve since learnt that eating is a sport; a pastime – the only sport you’d ever see me engaging in. lolol.

Okay less talk, more photos. Drool worthy pictures coming up, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Best to grab a snack while reading this so you don’t feel morosely hungry.

Decided to check out Privé Cafe over at Keppel Bay after hearing pretty positive feedback about the place. Also, Brendan used to work there and he assured us that it would be bang for our buck!

We reached around 3pm and got seated at the Alfresco section. I usually love Alfresco dining especially in the late evening / night cos nothing beats the cool fresh scent of the night air and the liberating feeling of dining under the stars. I know right, total hopeless romantic. Tres cliché.

Alfresco dining!
Yachts! Gorgeous view, right?

But it so happens that the weather recently has been a fucking nightmare. I was literally sweltering in the heat while waiting for my food and that’s a real mood killer. But the ambience makes up for it! If you’re into aesthetics, you’d love this place cos you’d get a full view of yachts on dock, water lapping gently against concrete and cool greenery that all lends a touristy vibe!

We went there with the intention of having brunch, so brunch we had!
All food featured here were from the breakfast menu.

Macadamia Coffee
Pretty Rebekah.

I ordered the Privé Ultimate Brekkie which consisted of 2 eggs (you can choose the manner in which you'd like them to be prepared), English Pork Sausage, roasted bacon, roasted totatoes, sautéed button mushrooms, hashbrowns and wholemeal toast. That’s quite a lot of food which justifies the 20$ price tag in my opinion.

Privé Ultimate Brekkie!
LOOK AT DAT.
Me with my plate of heaven!

The sausage was cooked really well – with crispy skin and a tender bouncy centre. It wasn’t too chewy or rubbery which is v important in sausages. In fact, it tasted more like a tender pork steak than a sausage. How many sausages can you find with qualities such as these?! The sautéed mushrooms had just the right about of chewy bounciness and seasoning, though the portion was kinda pathetic. I requested for scrambled styled eggs and these were just fine – not horrible but not exceptionally special either. As for the bacon strips, they were a tad too salty for my liking. Overall, the dish was definitely enjoyable but.. I'm not jumping out of my chair.

But but but! I tried Alethea’s Eggs Royale – English muffins topped with smoked Norwegian Salmon, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce – and it was mind blowing. Freakin’ fireworks in my mouth.

Eggs Royale!

The poached eggs had the perfect texture (smooth and not too dribbly) coupled with the right amount of Hollandaise sauce and seasoning. Talking about it now is torturous cos I WANNA GO BACK AND ORDER IT NOW. Amazing, I tell you. You HAVE to order this if you ever go to Prive.

I also tried a bite of Brendan’s Omelette with smoked leg ham (actually, I tried a bit of EVERYONE’S food. I always insist on doing this heheheh) and it was quite marvellous too. I know you can hardly go wrong with omelettes, but I think the chef still did a pretty good job. The cheese wasn’t too overwhelming and I think this is vital in making an omelette – not overdoing it.

Nik’s pancakes were also pretty good. Soft, fluffy and bouncy – everything you would want in a pancake!

Seriously, these pancakes were genuinely fluffy. They felt like.. Dancing cotton candy in my mouth. Plus right, they came with cream, maple syrup and fruit. All sweet and tangy. Perfect combination! Nevertheless, I thought that the serving size was kinda small. I would never be full on just 3 slices of pancakes. Also right, pancakes aren’t difficult to make. But at just 13$, why not?!

We also ordered fries with truffle oil mayonnaise and it was much better than expected. At least 7 stars out of 10! Fries were crispy yet soft and moist on the inside, and the truffle mayonnaise complimented them perfectly.

Overall my verdict for Prive is unquestionably positive. Any restaurant that can get me hungry just talking or thinking about their food gets an immediate thumbs up. Also, all menu items are priced pretty decently and definitely affordable. This would be a good place for a date / chill out session with your gang cos it’s so calm and serene!

Oh but but but, it will be quite impossible to locate this place by public transport unless you’ve got some super spidey sense of direction and legs that won’t quit. So I would suggest you drive or take a cab.

Okay! I’m off to rustle up some supper now cos talking about food has awakened the roaring dragon in my stomach.
